Our Mission

Education

To advance the education and protect and preserve the good health of the pupils of primary schools in Mbeere district of Kenya, near Embu, in particular but not exclusively, by the provision of equipment and funding, and for such charitable purposes as the trustees may from time to time determine. In the long term we may be able to provide finances to train teachers or sponsor any gifted pupils. Hopefully some of these pupils will carry our ideas forward to the next generation.

Poverty Relief

To relieve poverty and suffering in these communities specifically but not exclusively through the improvement of water supplies, sanitation, and advice and training on related health matters.

Research into Water Supply and Treatment

To fund and develop research into, but not limited to the following:

  • Treatment of water including that generated by rainwater harvesting from school roofs and any other local buildings and /or catchment areas for improving water quality, sanitation and irrigation locally.
  • Materials and hardware provision of all necessary items such as roofing, piping, guttering, tanks, reservoirs, water treatment works, pumps, boreholes etc, and the continued maintenance of all such items.

Agricultural and General Quality of Life

Resultant eventual improvement in agricultural output and quality of life for both the schools and the local communities.

Funding and Expertise

Funding will be needed for the above as well as voluntary and/or paid assistance and advice from experts in various fields such as teachers, local planners, engineers, surveyors, hydrologists, soil specialists, agriculturalists, health experts, local craft trainers(carpenters, bricklayers, concreters, pipe layers)

Ownership and community involvement

We are fully aware of the importance of involving local craftsmen and stakeholders, and insuring that our work will eventually become self-sustaining and independent of external subsidy. Training in local skills, and the use of locally bought materials for construction projects are essential if projects are to survive. A large amount of time and effort will be invested to research all the above before proceeding with any project. Awareness of local sensitivities and respect for the needs of the school and community are essential for success. We intend to supervise much of the work locally in the future.
